Contigo helps to deliver festive cheer to children

At Contigo, we are very proud to be supporting South Birmingham Community Food Bank with a donation of 160 chocolate advent calendars.

The calendars will be given to children who are assisted by the food bank.

Supporting our local communities is really important to us, so we are thrilled to be playing a part in helping children to enjoy the countdown to Christmas this year.

Everyone who works here is aware of just how much assistance food banks need, particularly Emilia Lewin, a Business Analyst here at Contigo, who is a volunteer at South Birmingham Community Food Bank.

She explains: “South Birmingham Community Food Bank is a charity group working under Food Cycle, and it has been designated to help vulnerable, elderly and isolated people during this difficult period dealing with COVID-19.

“We operate on collections of surplus food from many big companies including M&S, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose, Savers and The Big Pet Stores, as well as donations from the community.

“It has been challenging, as the volume of surplus varies each week, and demand for food parcels has increased over the past few weeks.

“Since March 2020, we have delivered over 11,000 food parcels and have saved several tons of surplus food, which would have otherwise ended up in landfill.”
